MEM FOX VISITS SIRIUS COLLEGE!

On Tuesday the 19th of September we were lucky enough to have the amazing children’s author “Mem Fox” come and visit us at Sirius College. She arrived here at recess and enjoyed a fantastic lunch with our staff before presenting to the students. Mem Fox captured the attention of the children and the adults from the moment she spoke. She spoke about the importance of reading and also spoke about her newest book “I’m Australian Too”. Mem Fox read her famous story “Possum Magic” to the children and also answered many questions. We all felt very lucky to have her visit our school and I am sure many of us will cherish this experience.

NUMERACY WEEK

This year Sirius College Eastmeadows Primary Campus celebrated Numeracy Week between 21st – 25th of August. Our week commenced with an incursion for grades 1 to 3 by Professor Maths. On Tuesday, our students put their science and engineering skills to the test and made ‘Straw Aeroplanes’ with a lunchtime competition to see which plane would fly the furthest. For Wednesday our Prep students hosted their parents with maths games and hands on numeracy challenges. Grades 2 to 6 also had a day full of numerous maths challenges of varying complexity. On Thursday our competitions took on a digital format. Grades P to 2 were allocated into teams and armed with an iPad to battle out a Kahoots challenge. Grades 3 to 6 used nothing but sheer mental force to battle out and declare their times-table champions. For Friday, Professor Maths returned with more fun-tastic maths facts and figures for our grades 4 to 6. What a great way to celebrate Numeracy Week!

Kind regards,
Mrs Esra OZ
